Anacapa

Well I was able to make it out to the Channel Islands before I leave for Philly for training early tomorrow. It was an amazing time with beautiful island scenery. I have posted more pics of the trip on my photoblog. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and because of the high winds causing the huge swells I wasn't able to kayak around the island. But nonetheless, I had a great time. I was able to go up in the lighthouse (thanks Ranger Mike) that overlooks the east side and get some great views.

Saw California sea lion breeding grounds, tons of brown pelicans that looked like an air fleet flying overhead, and never even got pooped on! Did have a close call though. On the hour long boat ride out we were lucky enough to see humpback and blue whales on their annual migratory journey through the channel from Alaska. Simply, awe-inspiring.

Well, as i mentioned, tomorrow morning is it - off to Philly then to Africa. I hope to be able to post whenever I get the chance and update everyone on my experience.

DrS out.
