The AU Summit

This weekend the African Union is holding it's annual meeting here in the Gambia (check out BBC). The area is tightly controlled and we're recommended to stay in and avoid the madness which includes unnecessarily high-speed reckless police/military armed escorts racing through the streets, signs and buildings being erected everywhere, and delays with everything. Has anybody heard about this or is Gambia's efforts to get noticed going to be for not? They're trying to get their name out there, but I hope the money spent is worth the efforts and results in benefitting the country.
